I went, I looked, and this is what I found. Everything a Regulation 44 report is worth rests on that sentence being true.
The regulation exists because a home’s account of itself is not worth what an independent person’s is. So once a month somebody with no stake in the place turns up, speaks to children where nobody can hear, reads the records, and writes down what they found. They are the instrument. We build what they look through.
Regulation 44 is where we started because it is the plainest case, not the only one. A check made before someone starts work is worth only as much as what somebody actually saw before they signed it off.
Nothing we build is a spotlight and none of it catches anyone out. The work is removing the places where things go unseen — so that the next visit, or the next check, starts from what is already known.
Which name is which
Firsthand runs the portal you sign in to, and makes the tools you open from it.
Insight is the Regulation 44 tool: prepare the visit, write the report, and send it on your own authority.
A second tool, for onboarding and HR checks, is in development: the checks that come before someone starts, worked through in order, with the evidence kept. If you run these checks now, tell us how. More tools will follow, one job each.
